Bromley Hall
Assemble Workspace is excited to announce the opening of Bromley Hall, a new site for creative work in London.
Located in Bromley-by-Bow, the site comprises Bromley Hall (c. 1485), a Grade II*-listed building, first constructed at the time of the Battle of Bosworth, alongside the Grade II-listed Old Poplar Library (c. 1904–5), and RedBox, a temporary building constructed from recycled shipping containers.
We have secured a 25 year lease with an option to buy, allowing us to establish a stable, long term space for creative practice. We’re looking for tenants, collaborators and community partners to join us as we embark on plans to develop the site, and contribute to its historic legacy as a space of diverse civic, domestic, and industrial activity.
With studios ranging from 120 sq ft to 1,600 sq ft, the site can accommodate diverse operational arrangements and needs, from individual makers to small-scale organisations. Working across a range of ecologically and socially-orientated disciplines, this network of creative practitioners will become a dynamic resource. Tenants can forge new working partnerships, make use of shared resources, and exchange expertise with communal spaces, including a shared Kitchen and the historic Blount Room, providing an opportunity to showcase their work through a public programme of workshops, talks, and exhibitions.

Bromley Hall
Standing on the upper bank of the River Lea for over 500 years, Bromley Hall has undergone a series of remarkable transformations. The building was constructed by the Holy Trinity Priory c.1485 and leased to Sir John Blount, a trusted member of Henry VIII's inner circle, and later became the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Blount, a mistress of the King and mother of his only acknowledged illegitimate child, Henry Fitzroy.
Since then, Bromley Hall has been successively repurposed: as a hunting lodge; a Civil War gunpowder factory; a merchant's retreat; missionary headquarters; a pediatric hospital; and a calico printing works. Throughout the house, historic remnants bear witness to this genealogy of reuse; an image of a hound chasing a stag is carved into the spandrels of a doorway dating back to the Tudor period.
Under Assemble’s stewardship, Bromley Hall will evolve into its newest iteration as a collective workspace, comprising individual studio spaces and a communal event and meeting space (the Blount Room).
Studio Spaces: 140 sq ft (13 sq m) – 280 sq ft (26 sq m), starting from £370 pcm.
Communal Space—The Blount Room: 320 sq ft (30 sq m), accommodating up to 30 people. Bookable by Bromley Hall tenants and the wider public with subsidised rates or free for non-commercial use.

Old Poplar Library
Since its completion in 1905, the Old Poplar Library has evolved into a distinctive local landmark, recognisable for its white ashlar masonry and Ionic pillars. The building's construction was made possible by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who viewed public libraries as a vital community resource, financing 2,509 libraries worldwide, four of which are in Poplar. After falling into disuse in 1981, the Library was given new life by the London Historic Buildings Trust, which restored and converted the building for commercial use.
Today, studios of a range of sizes are available across the building's three floors, benefiting from its large windows, ideally suited to creative practices requiring natural daylight.
Small Studio Spaces: 120 sq ft (11 sqm) – 430 sq ft (46 sqm), starting from £320 pcm.
Large Studio Spaces: 750 sq ft (70 sqm) – 1,600 sq ft (150 sqm), starting from £1,950 pcm.
RedBox
Made of converted shipping containers, RedBox sustains a new chapter of industrial activity on the site, offering workspace units suited to individual practitioners and small-scale organisations.
